the story of jaguara is one of quiet passion and bold experimentation — the kind of story we love to tell at untold coffee.

it all began in 2001, when antonio wander, a dedicated agronomist and researcher, planted the first seeds of a dream with two fellow agronomists. over a decade later, in 2013, the next chapter unfolded as his son andré luiz and his partner natália took over the reins. with them came a new wave of sustainable thinking — a deep respect for the land, and a vision to farm with nature, not against it.

nestled in campo das vertentes — a region once known for gold — the 90-hectare jaguara farm now seeks a richer kind of treasure: extraordinary coffee. grown naturally, jaguara’s beans are full of bold chocolate and plum notes, wrapped in a gentle, lasting sweetness.

but jaguara isn’t just a farm — it’s a hub of innovation. from experimenting with fermentation methods like anaerobic and aerobic processing, to using barrels, drying boxes, tanks, and even polypropylene bags, their team is constantly exploring new ways to draw out unique flavors.

in 2019, their dedication paid off. jaguara entered the prestigious cup of excellence for the first time — and walked away with fifth place, scoring an incredible 90.47 points. that’s not just good. that’s among the best in brazil.

at untold coffee, we’re proud to roast these exceptional beans. because behind every cup is a story worth sharing — and jaguara’s is one of care, curiosity, and craft.

sip slowly. the story’s in the taste.

founded in 1961, the cocatrel cooperative in três pontas, minas gerais, brazil , is one of the largest and most influential coffee cooperatives with over 8,000 farmers. known for sustainable farming and social responsibility, cocatrel focuses on eco-friendly agriculture, offering training in water conservation, soil management, and pest control.

the cooperative works with farmers most of whom manage farms smaller than 10 hectares, and antonio josé menezes is the one whom delivered this delicious coffee.

moreover, cocatrel empowers female coffee producers with training and technical assistance, enabling them to take on leadership roles, one of them is the grupo cafeína initiative. as a result, cocatrel has become the cooperative with the highest percentage of women in brazil’s coffee sector. in 2019, cocatrel exported its first batch of coffee produced exclusively by these women, showcasing high quality and market appeal.

cocatrel’s microlot program allows farmers to sell small batches of high-quality coffee, earning premium prices and encouraging investment in quality and sustainability. in 2020, cocatrel’s micro-lot coffees won several national and international awards, highlighting their exceptional quality. the cooperative also provides access to credit, marketing channels, and technical expertise, boosting productivity and profitability across the community.

with high standards of traceability and quality control , all coffee deliveries are tagged and recorded with unique qr codes, ensuring full traceability for growers. cocatrel has 11 buying points across the region, making it convenient for farmers to deliver their produce. through these initiatives, cocatrel leads in sustainable coffee production, social responsibility, and community development, setting a benchmark for cooperatives worldwide.
