in the heart of aceh, where wet-hulled coffee has long been the norm, one family is quietly rewriting the rules. this is the story of hendra — and the small washing station that’s making a big impact.

it started with his father, hamdan, who moved to pegasing in 2006 to plant coffee. what followed was more than just a new farm — it was a seed planted in hendra, who joined his father in 2010 and soon grew curious about what coffee could be if processed differently. while most in the region stuck with tradition, hendra looked to old texts and emerging voices across indonesia, searching for something more expressive, more intentional.

from that curiosity came action. with his family and a little funding, hendra built a small wet mill complete with two pulpers, gravitational washing channels, and raised beds inside poly tunnels — a rare sight in this part of the world. today, he produces 8–10 experimental processes each season and up to 40 tons of green coffee a year.

but the story doesn’t stop with infrastructure. hendra has created a ripple effect in his community, working with 70 nearby farmers and rewarding them for picking only ripe cherries. he pays extra to those who travel far or grow special lots — like the rare abyssinia varietal, one of the original coffees brought to indonesia. through his nursery, he’s helping bring this ancient variety back to life, plot by plot.

at untold coffee, we’re proud to share what hendra is creating — not just because it’s complex and layered in the cup, but because it’s rooted in something deeper: a commitment to transformation, to quality, and to people.

this is coffee that challenges what’s expected. and it tastes like possibility.

drink it slow. let the story unfold.

in the lush highlands of sumatra, amidst a sea of conventional wet hulled coffee farms, there’s an island of innovation: hendra’s washing station and farm. hendra’s father, hamdan, moved from bandaaceh in 2006, sparking hendra’s passion for coffee. since 2010, hendra has experimented with washed coffees, moving away from traditional methods.

their farm boasts post harvesting facilities with a wet mill, gravitational washing channels, and poly tunnels. producing up to 40 tons of green coffee annually, they work with 70 farmers incentivized to pick ripe coffee cherries.

hendra grows the abyssinia varietal, paying a premium for higher #cupquality. he also uses #anaerobicmaceration, selecting cherries from high altitude farms. after fermentation, the coffee is dried and carefully handpicked.

hendra’s innovation and dedication have earned him a reputation among specialty roasters in indonesia, especially jakarta. his farm is a beacon of passion and progress in coffee farming.
